JOY International Overview

JOY International ("JOY") is an interdenominational, cooperative endeavor designed to assist women in their quest for a meaningful life, a practical faith, and a vibrant relationship with God. Over the course of a year, JOY reaches out to the women in the community through a variety of means: JOY Breakfasts, monthly Java JOY discussion forums, small group Bible studies, prayer gatherings, equipping workshops, practical helps and our new JOY Blog. Over 1600 women have attended or participated in these JOY events, representing more than 17 denominations and 100 churches. Hundreds of these women have had no church affiliation.

The JOY Breakfast is the flagship event, held twice a year in the spring and fall. These breakfast events are designed to inspire women along in their spiritual journeys by raising and answering questions pertaining to life and faith. A featured speaker addresses a relevant theme by drawing on her personal story and experiences. Special music, door prizes, and dramatic skits are other popular components of the program. The overall atmosphere is warm and inviting, and women use these breakfast events to invite their friends.

Java JOY events are regularly scheduled monthly events at a local coffee shop. The format combines a short speaker presentation with an open discussion on a topic relevant and interesting to women and the issues they face.

JOY Participant Characteristics

JOY women represent a unique set of characteristics.

Captive Audience: The average attendance is 650 women per JOY Breakfast and 25 women per Java JOY. Women pay close attention to the information mentioned on JOY event tickets, programs, and mailings.

Word of Mouth: 55% of the women that attend a JOY Breakfast come as the result of an invitation by a friend, creating an opportunity for these women to recommend and share additional experiences made available to them by business sponsors that morning.

New Prospects: 42% of the attendees at every Breakfast are first-time guests. Repeat business sponsors of JOY events have the opportunity to consistently drive brand recognition and communicate their value proposition to an ever-growing base of women.

Interest in Giving Back: Since the first JOY Breakfast in 2006, nearly 200 women have volunteered their skills and time to JOY in a variety of capacities including leadership, greeters, church reps, home hostesses, small group facilitators, and publicity, décor, technical, and clerical assistance. JOY believes that each woman possesses unique talents and gifts and encourages women to serve in areas that hold value and meaning for them. Volunteerism is a source of community strength, and business sponsors contribute to the strength of the community by supporting JOY and its volunteers.

Buyers with Purchasing Power: More than 61% of the JOY Breakfast attendees are Baby Boomers. According to the Nielsen Company, Boomers are the largest single group of consumers in the United States. Moreover, boomer women are the new "sweet spot" demographic group, often spending an average $10,000 more than their male generational counterparts and making more than 50% of the buying decisions in categories previously considered male-dominated.

Full Age Range: JOY Breakfast attendees are all ages.

JOY Media

Email: Emails are sent to nearly 1,900 women in our JOY International database every month except the summer. The subject of these emails is typically JOY business or the announcement of a JOY event.

Facebook: JOY has over 400 Facebook fans, and we regularly engage with fans through this platform.

Website: The JOY International website receives over 350 unique visits every month. Visitors view an average of 5 pages and spend just over 5 minutes on the site. Traffic to the site is expected to increase with the growth of the JOY Blog.

Posters and Flyers: Publicity posters and flyers are developed for Java JOY and JOY Breakfast events.
